Welcome to mbis

Since its doors opened for the first time in 1951, Marist Brothers International School has served the international and local community here in Kobe, Japan. I first joined the faculty in 2005, and the Administration team in 2009. Statistically, it seems that principals tend to stay at a school for around five years before moving on. So why stay so long?

When I first arrived at the school, MBIS was marketed with the phrase “Education with a difference.” An intriguing notion - but what is that difference? When prospective families choose MBIS over other schools, they often remark on how impressed they were by the “atmosphere” of the school. Again, this is intriguing, but what do they mean? What they have experienced, I believe, is an integral part of the MBIS “difference”. We are a small school with a strong community, and it is through this positive, supportive environment that we all grow.

While we still offer an “Education with a difference”, today we focus on four powerful words - Motivate, Believe, Inspire, Succeed. They reflect a long, cherished tradition of character-based education at MBIS. By developing good young people, we help sustain our strong community. And in turn contribute to a better world. We can’t do this by ourselves, but I know our graduates are making a difference, and that makes me very proud. I hope you can visit us and see for yourself what makes life at MBIS so special.
