Student Services

Supporting our students

MBIS employs an  full-time Medical Officer, catering to the daily health needs of our student body and staff. In addition, the MBIS Health Office is responsible for:
  • Ensuring immunization and other medical requirements are completed
  • Communicating health updates to the MBIS community
  • Coordinating with the MBIS Doctor to carry out annual influenza vaccination clinics
  • Coordinating annual staff health checks, and staff training
Students may bring their own lunch to school, or purchase school lunch at the MBIS cafeteria.  Freshly made meals, utilizing locally-sourced produce, are available each day, ranging in price from 300-600 yen per day.  Vegetarian meals are available.  The weekly lunch menu is available via the quicklinks button on this website - no pre-ordering is necessary.
The MBIS Guidance Counselor is available to assist students in all aspects of their personal and academic growth.  Students are invited to visit with the guidance counselor and confidentiality share their concerns, questions, or problems.  In addition to assisting with personal issues, the counselor is available to help students with academic and university questions.  The college application process is individualized to the needs of each student; however, preparation classes and informational sessions, including presentations and Q & A sessions for parents, are integrated into the school timetable and calendar.
Students in grades 9 & 10 have a regularly scheduled guidance period within their class schedule.  During this period students explore careers, begin preparation for searching and applying to university, practice learning skills, and participate in lessons geared towards development of social and emotional learning (SEL).  In grades 11 and 12, students focus on the college search and application process meeting with the guidance counselor as a class and in individual sessions as necessary.   The counselor sees students in other grades as considered necessary in order to support their academic, social, and emotional needs.
In addition to the counseling and guidance services offered by the Guidance Counselor, members of the faculty are also available to offer professional recommendations and to assist students in setting their educational goals and interpreting test results. The IB Diploma Coordinator provides another level of guidance and support for students entering and within the IB Diploma Programme.
For further information or support, please contact the Director of Guidance, Ms. Regina Edward.
